In our first story this week, Friday was a rather disastrous day for crypto investors, as well as the broader market. The value of the largest cryptocurrency took a large dip amid the rumors of the expected tightening of FED monetary policy and continued tech sell-off.
In only a day, Bitcoin plunged by 10.4%, ending the week at $36.000 levels. And, this is only after the recovery from going as low as $35.000 at one point during the day. It was the lowest Bitcoin has been since July 2021. Other major cryptocurrencies didn't perform much better, either. Ethereum dropped by 14.4%, while Crypto.com Coin slumped by 14.6%. The total hit on the crypto market cap at the end of the day was more than $200 billion.
Next up, the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel in Fort Hall, Idaho has just announced its spring entertainment schedule. The star-studded lineup is headlined by hip-hop superstars Nelly and T.I. The duo of award-winning rappers will perform on June 24.
Before these two take the stage, casino visitors will have a chance to enjoy several other exciting acts. The series of events opens on January 29 with the Oklahoma rockers, Hinder. In February, the magician troupe Champions of Magic will bring their mind-bending theatrical production to Idaho. County music lovers will surely gather for concerts of Neil McCoy and Parmalee in March and April. Finally, in the first week of May, comedy legend Tracy Morgan and Selena tribute band, Como la Flor, will perform on back-to-back nights.
In our next story, the gaming market in Pennsylvania is expanding, and the latest addition is likely to be up and running by the end of this year. On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board voted to award the Category 4 casino license to Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment. This means that the company can move forward with its plans to develop a mini casino in the Shippen Town Center in Shippensburg.
The Category 4 license allows operators to have between 300 and 750 slot machines at the gaming facility. According to the license application, the Shippensburg casino will initially feature 500 slot machines. The new development will also provide a boost for the local economy, providing 175 jobs during construction and 125 full-time jobs once the casino is open.
In our last story, New York bettors wager over $600 million after the launch of legal online betting in the state. With $67 million per day in wagering, New Yorkers have shattered the record previously held by New Jersey and beaten Pennsylvania as the state with the most successful launch of mobile betting.
During the first week, bets on football, basketball, hockey, and other sports events have generated gross gaming revenue of $48.2 million. With the hefty 51 percent tax rate, this also means that the state has already pulled a whopping $24.6 million in taxes. The online sportsbook operators have done pretty well, too. Ceasar's leads the pack with $257.7 million in bets received and $22.7 million in gross revenues. Right behind them are FanDuel and Draft Kings.
