In our first story this week, it's the holiday season in Vegas, and Santa's been more than busy. On Wednesday night, a woman playing slots at the downtown Vegas casino got the best Christmas present she could've imagined. It was a night to remember for the lucky lady as she hit the life-changing jackpot at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino. The big win came while she was spinning the reels on one of the Elvis slot machines. The woman, who only introduced herself as Mary, won the prize worth over $467,000.
December has been particularly lucky for players at the El Cortez casino. Mary's win on Wednesday marks the tenth jackpot this month, including two big payouts on the Dollar Storm slot machine.
Next up, the high-stakes battle for three casino licenses in the State of New York is heating up. Some of the biggest names in the gaming industry have already submitted their bids to be allowed to develop a casino in New York and its suburbs. Among those who have expressed interest in one of the coveted licenses are two gambling giants who already own property in the area: MGM Resorts International and Genting Group.
The highly lucrative licenses in the largest untapped market in the US have also attracted the attention of other major players, such as Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts, and Hard Rock International. However, this is just the start of the process, and the New York Gaming Commission will likely not award licenses before 2023.
