In our first story, the long legal battle in front of the Arkansas Supreme Court finally comes to an end. On Thursday, the court ruled in favor of the Cherokee Nation against the Gulfside Casino Partnership. The decision comes after a series of legal and regulatory challenges over placing a casino property in Pope County.

The case revolved around whether the Gulfside was a legal applicant for the casino license. According to the Arkansas Casino Gaming Amendment, the applications for the casino licenses are not valid unless they came after the initiation of the application process. As that was not the case with the Gulfside Casino Partnership, the court ruled against them. The amendment will see several operators in the Jefferson and Pope counties obtain their licenses.

Next up, two more Maryland casinos are on their way to receiving sports betting licenses. Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin have been cleared by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission to offer sports wagering at their premises. Now, all that's left is for the casinos to receive approval from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission.

That should have happened last week, but the meeting of the commission was postponed. Still, the two casinos are expected to soon join the MGM National Harbor, Live! Casino, and Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino, who already have their licenses.

Maryland voters approved sports betting legalization at the referendum held last year. In May, Governor Hogan signed the approved legislation into law, effectively making sports wagering legal.

In our next story, things are looking good for the gambling industry. According to the recently published "Global Casino Gambling Market 2021-2025" report, the casino market is set for significant growth. The authors of the report predict that, over the next five years, the gambling market will grow by $32.54 billion.

The report takes into account the latest trends and changes in players' habits observed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Numerous lockdowns across the world forced casino customers to pivot to online gambling and casino apps instead of land-based establishments. Online gambling will continue to be the fastest-growing part of the market. Its growth will only be sped up with the introduction of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

In our last story this week, the NFL is set to invest a significant amount of money in the prevention and treatment of gambling problems. The league plans to spend $6.2 million over the next three years for these purposes.

The plans center around launching the responsible betting initiative, which should educate the fans and help them understand the risks of betting. On this project, the league will partner up with the National Council on Problem Gambling. This should help the Council improve their helplines, create new support programs and expand the ones that already exist. The goal is to reach as many fans as possible through in-game and broadcast messaging and social media outreach. These efforts will also include fans that are still too young to gamble.
