In our first story this week, a Texas woman wins more than $1 million at the Las Vegas casino. Last week, Friday the 13th brought luck to Nora Davila from Pharr, Texas who hit the progressive jackpot at the Venetian. Nora won $1,021,166 playing the IGT's Wheel of Fortune slot machine. On Friday morning, the lucky lady bet only $2 when three Wheel of Fortune symbols lined up on the machine triggering the huge jackpot.
Customers at the Venetian have been on quite a roll lately. Nora's jackpot was the second massive payout last week. On Wednesday, another player turned a $5 bet into more than $1.5 million. He was also playing a version of the IGT's most popular slot - Wheel of Fortune Wild Red Sevens.
Next up, the residents of Richmond, Virginia will have a say in spending a potential revenue from the proposed casino. The City of Richmond is asking for public opinion on how to invest more than $25 million that could be soon coming their way. However, before they see any of the money, the proposal will have to pass the referendum on allowing casino gambling in the city.
The city has already partnered up with the Urban One conglomerate to develop ONE Casino + Resort. If the proposal passes the referendum, the casino will be developed in the Southside area of Richmond. The future facility will feature 150 hotel rooms, gaming space, and dozens of bars and restaurants. The city will conduct a citizens' survey from August 13 to September 6.
In our next story, Chinook Winds Casino in Oregon will close its doors until late August due to Covid safety concerns. The delta variant has caused a surge in positive cases and hospitalizations across the state, forcing the casino to temporarily put a hold on its operation. According to the Siletz Tribal Council, Chinook Winds Casino, hotel, and golf course will be closed for the public until August 26.
Michael Fisher, the General Manager of the casino, stated that the organization has made a lot of progress in vaccinating employees, their families, and members of the community. Still, health and safety come first and the casino had to make a difficult decision. Fisher added that all team members will receive their salaries during the two-week hiatus.
In our last story, a cryptocurrency that started as a joke receives backing from the billionaire entrepreneur. Back in March, Dallas Mavericks have announced that the organization will accept payments in Dogecoin for its merchandise. The team's owner, Mark Cuban, recently stated that the franchise has seen a substantial rise in sales made this way. Cuban added that they will continue to promote this cryptocurrency, offering special prices for Dogecoin users this summer.
Mark Cuban has been a strong proponent of Dogecoin for quite some time. He believes that it's the strongest cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange. The meme-inspired altcoin is actually used for transactions, unlike Bitcoin, which most investors see as an asset. Cuban revealed that he owns Dogecoin, but also has invested in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
