In our first story this week, a furniture mogul from Texas seems to have set the new record for the biggest online sports bet. Jim McIngvale, better known as Mattress Mack, has wagered $4.53 million that the Cincinnati Bengals will win the Super Bowl.

Mack is already famous for enormous wagers and has gained a national following thanks to his outrageous betting strategy. However, his bets carry less risk than they do for most other bettors. He uses them to hedge sports-related promotions at this store. Currently, he's offering a refund on any mattress or furniture purchases if the Bengals beat the Rams on Sunday.

Interestingly, since online betting is illegal in his home state of Texas, Mack had to drive to Louisiana to place his wager.

Next up, not all the big wins in Vegas come at the legendary casinos along the Strip. This week, the biggest video poker prize was scored at the property that's located off the Strip. The lucky player managed to line up four deuces on Friday and land the jackpot while playing video poker at the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The big winner left Vegas with a whopping $100.000 in his pockets.

The casino at the Virgin Hotels is owned by the Mohegan Tribe and operated by Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment which also runs casinos in Connecticut and Pennsylvania. It has a 60,000-square-foot gaming floor featuring more than 550 slot and video poker machines and over 45 table games.

In our next story, a lucky jackpot winner will collect his money almost a month after he landed the big win. On January 8, Robert Taylor from Arizona won a $229,000 progressive slot machine jackpot at the Treasure Island casino. However, due to the slot machine malfunction, neither he nor the staff were aware of the winning hit at the time.

Eventually, the casino staff has discovered and confirmed the massive jackpot. Nevertheless, the winner's name remained a mystery. Ultimately, the Nevada Gaming Board officers had to get involved and conduct their own investigation. After reviewing hours of surveillance videos and interviewing dozens of witnesses, they finally managed to identify Robert Taylor as the rightful jackpot winner. Taylor is expected to return to Vegas this week to collect his winnings.

In our last story, a poker room in Dallas is ordered to shut down, despite owning a gaming license. The Texas Card House received a notice from the City Attorney saying that they're running a gambling operation and will have to close. One of the three poker rooms currently operating in Dallas only got its license last year after numerous meetings with city officials.

Finding a legal poker game in Texas is not easy. However, the poker rooms operated via the legal loophole in the Texas Penal Code. The law states that card games are legal as long as no one receives any economic benefit other than personal winnings. The card clubs avoided raking in the pot and, instead, only charged the players for the time spent at the venue.
